Tillamook, OR (April 5, 2017).  At the April 3, Tillamook Bay Community College board meeting, board member Mary Jones, who along with her partner & husband Jeff Schons are founders and owners of Pelican Brewing Company, announced to fellow board members that Pelican Brewing Company is pledging the final $100,000 needed to complete the capital fundraising campaign for the Partners for Rural Innovation Center. Pelican Brewing had already committed $10,000 toward the construction of the new building but after thinking it through decided they would like to do more. “One of our core values at Pelican Brewing is to support our local communities and we think a great way to do that is to assist in providing affordable higher education options for our local youth,” said Jones.

“We couldn’t be happier to have Mary and Jeff step up with this last bit of funding,” said Billy Schreiber, TBCC Board Chair. Until Monday, the fundraising campaign was $100,000 shy of reaching its $1.3 Million goal. “This gift from the Pelican Brewing Company completes our campaign and we are grateful,” continued Schreiber. A conference room at the Partners for Rural Innovation will be named in their honor.

“Mary and I have had many conversations over the years about her desire to support students in our community reaching for a higher education,” shared Connie Green, TBCC President. “We are so happy they chose to show their support for our community through this opportunity. It is a gift that will go on to support small businesses to begin and grow in our community just like they did and to support students getting the training and education they need to be successful in the workforce. I can’t thank them enough.”
