Disability Services

Tillamook Bay Community College’s Disability Services advisor collaborates with students, staff, faculty, and community members to create inclusive, equitable, diverse, and sustainable learning environments for all. We are able to provide a wide range of in-class and campus access services to students who experience documented disabilities, including:

  • Admission/registration assistance, advising, and advocacy;
  • Accommodations for classes, including:
    • Testing accommodations (extended time, reduced distraction, reader, scribe)
    • Alternate format (computer text with digital audio, Braille) options;
    • Technology (computer software and hardware and other devices) assistance;
    • Service Providers (sign language interpreter, classroom aide); and
    • Accessibility information, maps, and basic mobility orientation.

Who is eligible for accommodations?

In most cases, students with a disability who request services or accommodations need to provide appropriate and current documentation of the disability. If a student has multiple disabilities, the student needs to provide documentation for each disability for which accommodations are requested. Prior documentation such as an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a history of receiving accommodations from a former school does not typically validate the need for services or continuation of accommodations at the college level. However, this history can be attached to other current documentation demonstrating the student’s disability, the impact of the disability on the student’s performance in an academic setting and requested accommodations. The disability services advisor can work with you to complete the necessary documentation, which will allow the advisor to determine whether accommodations are needed for you to access your education.

Disability Services requests that disability documentation adhere to the following standards:

  • a qualified professional should conduct the evaluation and provide name, title, and professional credentials, including information about state licensure or certification number;
  • the evaluation should include the diagnosis and be dated;
  • the document should include the original signature of the professional responsible for the assessment of functioning;
  • the evaluation needs to be current. Disabilities may change in severity over time and documentation should support current accommodation needs. Generally, most evaluations must be completed within the last three years;
  • recommendations and rationale for accommodations must be based on the analysis of the functional impact of the diagnosis;

Disability Services will determine the appropriate services, accommodations, and/or assistive technology on an individual basis after reviewing the provided documentation and meeting with the student. Insufficient documentation can result in the delay of services and accommodations.
