Student Success

Student Success Indicators

To better understand how we can support our students and help them succeed:

  • We compare persistence, retention, completion and transfer rates with those of similar colleges
  • and we disaggregate these measures to identify and address the barriers that the college presents to student achievement.
Fall cohorts at TBCC are small, usually about 100 students, so the metrics include three cohort years, 2019-2021, which include 288 students. For each measure below, we have included a chart comparing TBCC with a sample of peer colleges. We have also disaggregated each measure by sex, race/ethnicity, age, Pell status, and first-generation in college status.

The achievement of each indicator is determined by comparing the current statistic with the threshold levels for each measure. These levels are:

= Achieved

= Minimally Achieved

= Not Achieved

Fall to Winter Persistence

The percentage of first-time at TBCC students in the fall term that return in winter term

Fall to winter persistence comparison data has previously been available through the Voluntary Framework for Accountability (VFA) which we have used to compare our performance with eight similar community colleges. But VFA comparison data is no longer available, so we are comparing our persistence rate with that of four small community colleges in Oregon. These data are a part of the Oregon Community College Student Success Dashboard. Our peer comparison colleges include:

Blue Mountain Community College – Pendleton, OR
Clatsop Community College – Astoria, OR
Columbia Gorge Community College – Dalles, OR
Oregon Coast Community College – Newport, OR

Year-to-Year Retention: Full-Time Students

The other student achievement measures draw peer comparators from IPEDS, which yielded a set of six comparators:

Clatsop Community College – Astoria, OR
Oregon Coast Community College – Newport, OR
Lincoln Trail College – Robinson, IL
Luna Community College – Las Vegas, NM
Eastern West Virgina Community – Moorefield, WV
Halifax Community College – Weldon, NC

Year-to-Year Retention: Part-time Students
