Pre-College Learning

At Tillamook Bay Community College, we care about student success.  Improving skills is the key to better job opportunities.  We offer the following opportunities to help students improve their skills and reach their goals:

  • GED

  • English as a Second Language (ESOL)

  • Adult Basic Education (ABE)

GED

GED Classes are available in English or Spanish. Completing the GED, the equivalent of a high school diploma is an important step in a student’s education and future.

GED FAQs:

Students must be at least 16 years old in order to enroll in GED classes. Students who are under the age of 18, who are a current high school student, need to obtain a “Release from Compulsory Attendance” form from their high school; homeschool students need to obtain an “Intent to Homeschool” letter from their local ESD before attending classes of taking the GED tests.

The GED class costs $15 per term.

Students can sign up at any time during the term. If you are not able to pay the fee, the college may be able to help. GED tests can be taken in the TBCC Library, Room 209. Testing hours vary. Sign-up, scheduling, and payment for testing is done online at www.ged.com. Step-by-step instructions are provided. If you need financial assistance (testing voucher) or have trouble scheduling your test, please contact the TBCC Library at 503-842-8222 ext: 1720. You may take the tests without taking the GED preparation classes.

Please bring current photo identification which includes a signature to your testing appointment. We cannot use your college ID for identification. You may use a calculator for the math exam. Calculators are available in the testing center. You may not use your cell phone as a calculator. Do not bring personal items or electronic devices including cell phones. Locked cabinets are available during the test if you need to store anything.

The fee is $38.00 per test or $152.00 for all four tests, however, prices are subject to change. If you are not able to pay the fee, the college may be able to help. We encourage all GED completers and their guests to participate in the TBCC Graduation ceremony as a celebration of your achievement.

You’ll receive an email letting you know when your scores are ready. Typically, you will receive this email within one business day; however, in some cases it may take up to two business days, especially if you tested on a Friday, Saturday, or the day before a holiday.

Your scores will also be available on your MyGED Dashboard.

To access your dashboard, simply login to www.GED.com

You should receive an email with your diploma/transcripts once you have passed your final GED test.

If you have lost that email, or never received it, visit www.ged.com/life_after_ged to get your transcripts.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program at TBCC offers classes for adults whose native language is not English. You’ll improve reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to help you on the job, in the community, and in the classroom.

Las clases de ESOL están para los estudiantes que primera lengua no es ingles. Las clases enseñan la lectura, escritura, escuchando, hablando, gramática, pronunciación y otras habilidades básicas de las comunicaciones.

Adult Basic Education

The ABE (Adult Basic Education) program at TBCC offers classes for adults who may need to brush up on their Reading, Writing or Math.  These courses are arranged to meet the student’s individual goals.  Students may want to take these courses before taking GED classes or before enrolling in college courses. Some students may have a personal goal to improve their skills to help on the job, in the community, or in the classroom.

ABE FAQs:

The classes are open to anyone age 16 and above.  For those students who are 16 or 17 years of age, a Release from Compulsory Attendance is required.  Submit the form to Student Services.
