Honoring Mildred Davy

The TBCC Foundation has honored Mildred Davy every fall since 2000 with a luncheon in her name to recognize all the scholarship recipients at the college. We had to take a break during COVID-19 but were able to meet again in person last fall for the first time in three years.

For many years, Mildred was the voice of Tillamook as the radio host of “It’s a Woman’s World,” which aired on KTIL, and she was a huge advocate for higher education. In 2002, the first endowed scholarship was awarded in her name to Lori Collingsworth. The endowment was started with $19,000 but has now grown to over $168,000 and has helped 43 TBCC students over the years!

This year, to honor Mildred, the Foundation will be holding its annual scholarship luncheon on Friday, October 20 at 3:30 p.m. at the Officer’s Mess Hall at the Port of Tillamook Bay. This is the event where we show appreciation to the donors and donor organizations that make our scholarship program possible and recognize all the foundation scholarship recipients. Those interested in attending the event can contact the Executive Director of the TBCC Foundation, Britta Lawrence, by October 13 at 503-842-8222 ext. 1026. Tickets are $20 per person. Sponsors for this year’s Mildred Davy Luncheon include TLC, a Division of Fibre Federal Credit Union, Tillamook PUD, and JAndy Acres.

Access to scholarships is vital for students to obtain a college education.  The TBCC Foundation awarded 65 scholarships and $115,000 this year. In 2022-23, we awarded 56 scholarships and $111,000. Many of these students need these funds to continue their education and the scholarships have had a large, positive impact on their lives. In addition to Foundation scholarships, the College offers the Career-to-Career scholarship that has supported hundreds of students since 2017. The Foundation has raised money to support the Career-to-Career scholarships for the past couple of years and continues to do so as part of its mission. This scholarship is for students that have been out of school for at least five years and covers all their tuition for whatever degree or certificate they are pursuing.

Many thanks to all the wonderful donors that have helped hundreds of TBCC students change their lives and reach their dreams, and congratulations to all the scholarship recipients for this year. These gifts will live on forever and have a continuing positive impact on so many people in our community. This level of generosity is just another reason that Tillamook County is so special.
