Financial Aid

If you are ready to start your educational journey, we want you to know about the funding sources available to help you pay for college. College expenses include tuition, fees, transportation, room, board, books, childcare and other costs associated with being a college student. You can pay for college using personal savings, with help from your family, with earnings from work, by applying for and receiving scholarships, or through financial aid from the government in the form of grants and loans.

Applying for Financial Aid for the First Time

Step 1: File the FAFSA

Eligibility for financial aid is determined by completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). You will need:

  • Your proper full name and Social Security Number
  • Federal School Code – TBCC’s is 041949.

Apply early beginning October 1st. You must reapply each year for financial aid and meet the eligibility requirements.

Step 3: Submit Your Verification Requirements (if necessary)

Students who are selected at random by the U.S. Department of Education for a process called verification will need to submit additional documents confirming the information reported on their FAFSA. To determine if you have additional eligibility requirements watch your TBCC email for requests from the financial aid office. Documents or other requirements must be submitted by the dates below in order to complete a financial aid award by the payment due date each term: 

Summer 2019

  • Submit FAFSA/ORSAA by: May 31, 2019
  • Satisfy Requirements by: June 14, 2019

Fall 2019

  • Submit FAFSA/ORSAA by: August 29, 2019
  • Satisfy Requirements by: September 13, 2019

Winter 2020

  • Submit FAFSA/ ORSAA by: November 29, 2019
  • Satisfy Requirements by: December 13, 2019

Spring 2019

  • Submit FAFSA/ORSAA by: February 28, 2020
  • Satisfy Requirements by: March 13, 2020


Step 4: Accept Your Award
  • Award notifications are sent to your TBCC email following the completion of all requirements.
  • Accept or decline your financial aid award by following the instructions provided in your TBCC email (funding is not available without an award).
Step 5: Receive Your Award Funds

TBCC students will receive financial aid refunds during the second week of the term by direct deposit or by check mailed to the student’s address of record. To sign up for direct deposit print the direct deposit form, fill it out and submit it to the TBCC store or business office. Award Distribution Timing:

Work Study:

  • Distributed in monthly paycheck

Grants and Loans:

  • Summer 2019: July 2, 2019*
  • Fall 2019:  October 2, 2019
  • Winter 2020: January 15, 2020
  • Spring 2020: April 8, 2020

*Beginning the third week of the term any available financial aid will be distributed each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Direct Loan, 1st-time borrower:

  • Summer 2019: July 31, 2019
  • Fall 2019:  October 30, 2019
  • Winter 2020: February 12, 2020
  • Spring 2020: May 6, 2020

Disbursement for 1st-time borrowers is delayed 30 days.

Direct one-term Loan, 2nd disbursement:

  • Summer 2019: August 5, 2019
  • Fall 2019:  November 4, 2019
  • Winter 2020: February 17, 2020
  • Spring 2020: May 11, 2020

One-term loans are distributed in two disbursements. The 2nd disbursement is the mid-point in the term.
